The lowest rated among the 12 finalist, Tan won against FM Andrew Kislik of USA (2276);FM Juorgen Brustkern of Germany (2334);IM Emil Szalianczy of Hungary (2247); FM Mark Lyel of England (2210) and FM Alexander Bakin of Russia (2232). He drew with IM Sandor Farago of Hungary(2284);FM Alexander Kholopov of Russia (2309);IM Tu Nhat Minh
(2400) and Csaba Tesik (2259) of Hungary. His loss came at the hands of untitled Nick Adam of the USA who finished last in the final standings and IM Lengyel Bela of Hungary and miss the IM norm by 1 point.
