Five FIDE rated players shows the way after round 1 of the Tonsuya Malabon City Non-Master Summer Chess Tournament held in Tonsuya Covered Court.
Top seed Efren Arguelles(2237FIDE rating)
, defeated Ricardo Sardowa of Tugatog while second seed Richie Evangelista (2160) won against local bet Fernando Bien. Other Fide rated players who won their opening games were Marlon Ricafort (2134) ; Verth Alora (2103) and Adrian Perez (2076). Ricafort beat Kimuel Lorenzo of Barangay Longos ; Alora defeated Philip Octaviano of Barangay Acacia and Adrian Perez winning against Christopher Cruz. Philippine College of Criminology bet Kevin Baltazar held 6th seed Eduardo Estrella of Manila to a draw even as Frederick Bernabe of Valenzuela City upset Andrew Casiano. 2010 Palarong Pambansa gold medalist Kenneth Baltazar registered the 1st victory of the tournament when he beat Allan Pacis in a game that lasted in less than five minutes. A total of 41 participants join the tournament organized by the Tonsuya Malabon Chess Club
