Marathon Chess at the 2011 Batang Pinoy NCR Chess Tournament : Docena wins title ;Kenneth Baltazar of Caloocan City finished 3rd



The second day of the 2011 Batang Pinoy Chess tournament held in University of Makati become a battle of endurance as the players all ages 15  years old and below played three rounds lasting nine hours. The  tournament starts at 8:00 to 11:00 am and after an hour break the next round start at 12:00 noon and finished at 2:30 pm and the last round for the day starts 30 minutes earlier at 3: 00 pm. - 6:00 pm. 

Round  2 
Four players are currently leading with perfect score after two rounds.Melwyn Kenneth Baltazar  defeated John Michael Magpily of Makati City  and is matched against the top-seeded Jerad Docena  for the third  round.

Round  3
Vincent Joseph Fuerte of National University grab the solo lead after three rounds as Melwyn Kenneth Baltazar of Caloocan City held top seed Jerad Docena into  a draw after 48 moves of a King's Indian Defense . Fuerte defeated Daryl Samantila of Manila . WHEW!!

Round 4 

Vincent Joseph Fuerte of National University upset Melwyn Kenneth Baltazar of Caloocan City in 64 moves of a Reti Opening to maintain his solo lead after four rounds of the 2011 Batang Pinoy NCR  leg . Jerad Docena of Pasay City is one half point behind at 33.5 points. Docena won against Paul Robert Evangelista of FEU.

Round 5

Top seed Jerad Docena defeated earstwhile leader Vincent Joseph Fuerte to grab the lead with only one round remaining . Caloocan City bet Melwyn Kenneth Baltazar defeated Anfernee Boniufacio of Marikina to stay in contention for a top three finish.

Round 6.

Pasay City bet Jerad Docena finished with 5.5 points out of six beating Daryl Samantila of Manila in the last round to grab the gold medal in the 2011 Batang Pinoy NCR  Elimination leg. Vincent Joseph Fuerte won the silver medal after an expected victory against his team mate Ryan Magtabog of Manila. Melwyn Kenneth Baltazar easily won his game against Ivan Czar Marquez of Quezon City for the Bronze medal.


Philippine Sports Commission Akiko Thompson awarded the medals and certificate of achievement to the winners in the awarding ceremony held in the University of Makati Mini Theater.
