NCAA CHESS : Total dominations for the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Junior chess team

Colegio de San Juan de Letran tops 87th NCAA Chess Team Championships Junior Division; dispute chess title with San Sebastian College
Colegio de San Juan de Letran toppled top seed College of Saint Benilde 3:1 as well as first round champion San Sebastian College 3.5: 0.5 and emerging powerhouse team Arellano University and Emilo Aguinaldo College by 2.5:1.5 and 3:1 score respectively for the top spot at the end of the 87th NCAA Chess Team Championships Juniors Division. The double round - robin tournament was played on July 31-August 28 2011.
Letran also blanks Mapua Institute of Technology, San Beda College University of Perpetual Help Data System and Jose Rizal University 4: 0.
Letran top the over-all standings with 51 points the same score of San Sebastian College and Arellano University but finished with the highest tie break scores. Defending champion College of Saint Benilde finished fourth overall 8.5 points behind.
Melwyn Kenneth Baltazar, Letran's top board player score a perfect 8/8 in the second round to improve his over-all record to 14 wins1 draw and a single loss for a 91% performance. Baltazar bags the gold medal in Board 1 4.5 points ahead of his nearest pursuer Drexter Saquilayan of Emilo Aguinaldo College who got 10 points. Letran, the second round champion will clash in a championship battle with 1st round champion San Sebastian College for the Junior title today at the SM Centerpoint,Sta Mesa, Manila

89th Season - Board 2 Gold medalist with a score of 16.5 points out of 18 games.
1st Place - Team Event ( No more play off as Letran for the 2nd straight year won both the 1st round and the 2nd round title and for the 3rd straight year Letran tops the double round robin tournament for 10 teams.
Melwyn Kenneth A. Baltazar for winning the Individual gold in the 89th Season of the NCAA Chess Championships (for the 3rd straight times in the last three years). And team captain of the back to back champion Colegio de San Juan de Letran Junior chess team .
