5TH DR.JOSE P.LEVISTE SR.INTER -SCHOOL CHESS FESTIVAL 2010
The Ateneo de Manila Chess Teams under IM Idelfonso Datu is organizing the 5th Dr.Jose P.Leviste Sr. Inter-School Chess Festival on March 21,2010 at the Ateneo Grade School Cafeteria,Ateneo De Manila University,Katipunan Avenue,Quezon City.The tournament is open to all bona fide grade school and high school undergraduate students who are not titled players.The two division tournament will employ a six-round Swiss System with an active time control of 25 minutes per player.FIDE Laws of Chess will be employed by the tournament.The top four placers per division shall be awarded trophies and cash . Champion Php 5,000.00 2nd place Php 3,000.00 3rd place Php 2,000.00 4th place Php 1,000.00. Special Categories Top Grade 1 Php 1,000.00 Top Grade 2 Php 1,000.00. Baltazar,dominates 2010 National Capital Region Palaro Chess Meet
Melwyn Kenneth Baltazar,grade six student of F.G.Calderon Integrated School defeated reigning National under-12 Champion, Paulo Bersamina of Pasay City in the final round to bag the 2010 NCR Palaro Elementary Boys title held in Aurora Elementary School,Quirino Avenue,Manila.Baltazar score a total of 6.5 points in 7 games . Defending champion Giovanni Mejia of La Salle Greenhills,Mandaluyong score 6 points for solo second place. The two will represent the National Capital Region in the coming 2010 Palarong Pambansa to be held in Tarlac,City this coming April.

MANILA, Feb. 19 – Manila's Melwyn Kenneth Baltazar on late Thursday dominated the National Capital Region (NCR) Palarong Pambansa Chess qualification tournament at the Aurora Quezon Elementary School, Quirino Avenue in Manila.
Baltazar, son of a national chess arbiter and teacher, also the 2008 NCR Palarong Pambansa chess titlist, finished undefeated in seven rounds with six wins and a draw to raise his total 6.5 points in the four-day qualifying tournament supervised by Chess Arbiters Association of the Philippines (CAAP) headed by it’s president Rey Colitoy and local arbiter Raul Cruz.
Last year's NCR Palarong Pambansa winner Giovanni "Gio" Mejia of Mandaluyong City was second with six points, while third placer Jerad Docena of Pasay City gathered 5.5 points in the Elementary Boys division.
Baltazar and Mejia will represent NCR in the 53rd edition of Palarong Pambansa slated on April 11 to 17 in Tarlac Province.
In the seventh and final round, Baltazar, a grade six pupil of Felipe Calderon Elementary School, edged Reigning 12 and under champion Paulo Bersamina of Pasay City.
Bersamina earlier beat Mejia, a grade seven student of La Salle Greenhills (LSGH).
On the other hand, Eder de Jesus of Malabon-Navotas while Docena, a grade six student of Gotamco Elementary School dumped, John Michael Mapily of Makati City.
Joining them in the tournament proper were Avhix Alfonso of Quezon City and Franz Grafil of Manila City (High School Boys), Jesca Docena of Pasay City and Maria Ysabelle Joyce Semillano of Muntinlupa City (Elementary Girls), Woman Fide Master Cherry Ann Mejia and Mikee Charlene Suede of Manila City (High School Girls).
