Aeroflot World Blitz Championship Qualifying : 5 th place finished for Wesley So!! Mamedyarov clinch title .



Wesley So of the Philippines score a total of 13 points out of 18 on six wins 3 draws and no loss to finished a strong fifth at the end of the World Blitz Chess Qualifying Tournament held February 17 at complex "Izmailovo".  So defeated 2011 Aeroflot champion GM Le Quang Liem 1.5: 0.5; GM Ian Nepomniachtchi (2733) of Russia 1.5 : 0.5 ;
GM  Francisco Pons Vallejo(2698) of Spain  1.5 : 0.5  of Spain; GM Vitaly Kunin(2548) of Germany 1.5:0.5; GM Ruben Felgaer of Argentina(2585) 2.0: 0.0 and untitled Piotr Korovkov of Ukraine. His draw came against GM Alexander Grischuk (2773) of Russia ; GM Ruslan Ponomariov of Ukraine and IM Aleksei Pridorozhni (2543) of Russia. So  and Nikita Vitiugov split the combine 2,800 Euro for finishing 5th and 6th respectively.The top six finishers qualified for the World Blitz Chess Championship.
Shakhrayov Mamedyanov of Azerbaijan blank Aleksei Pridorozhni 2.0 : 0 even as Ruslan Ponomariov edges solo leader Dmtry Andreikin 1.5: 0.5 that pave the way for  Mamedyarov to clinch the title and the 10,000 Euro 1st prize money. Mamedyarov score a total of  14.5 points ,one half point ahead of Ponomariov  who got 14 points. Dmtry Andreikin dropped into a tie for 3rd and 4th place with Evgeny Tomashevsky who won against Maxime Vachier-Lagrave of France 2.0 : 0. Ponomariov pocketed  5,000 Euro while Andreikin and Tomashevsky split the combine prize of 5,500 Euro. Nikita Vitiugov defeated Gata Kamsky of the USA in the last round 1.5: 0.5 to finish 6th with 13 points. Kamsky finished 14th place.
Filipino Oliver Barbosa and Richard Bitoon  finished 65th and 66th place both had a total of 10.0 points.Oliver Dimakiling is in 97th place with 9 points while GM Darwin Laylo got 7.5 points good for  134-150 place. A total of 194 players including 113 Grandmasters  and 32 International Masters participated in the events sponsored by Russias leading air company AEROFLOT and organized by the Russian Chess Federation and the Association of Chess Federations.
