2011 Asian Cities Chess Championship Round 2 : Palembang ,Indonesia upset all GM Tagaytay City,Philippine team.



Palembang,Indonesia scored the first major, major upset in the Asian Cities Chess Championship winning against the second seed Tagaytay City 2.5: 1.5 in round 2.
It was a Black Saturday for  Tagaytay City ,the same team that won the silver medal in the 2010 Asian Games as GM Wesley So lost to FM Rudim Hamdani ,300 rating points below So's rating in 34 moves of a Richter Rauzer Attack of the Sicilian Defense, GM Darwin Laylo lost to untitled Jenius Hakiki Kaisar in 40 moves of a Sicilian Defense,Kan variation. IM Tirto got the needed draw against GM John Paul Gomez in 40 moves of a Slav Defense for the upset victory. FM Hamdani threatens mate or material advantage against the expose King of So when the end came. Seeded teams  led by Shi Jiazhuang ; Astana of Kazakhstan ; Tehran,Iran  ; Jakarta and Abu Dhabi  played true  to their seeding and now shares 1st-6th place with 4 match points. Top seed Shi Jiazhuang won against Bangalore,India 3: 1. Astana blanks Baghdad,Iraq 4: 0. Tehran,Iran defeated Yangon  3.5 : 0.5 while host Jakarta score a 3: 1 victory over Sydney,Australia. Abu Dhabi who won by default in the 1st round won against Kathmandu,Nepal 3.5 : 0.5
