2011 Asian Youth Chess Round 8: Jan Garcia regains solo lead! Revita beat San Diego & Furtado ; shares Girls Under-12 lead. Gutierrez,Mejia assures of medal in Open 8 ;Girls 16 division!

The Vietnam team in the 2011 Asian Youth Chess Championship faces a close battle with team Philippines for the highest place among the ASEAN region.

Top seed Jan Emmanuel Garcia of Ateneo de Manila draw with number 2 seed Fang Yan of China was enough to take the solo lead in the Open -16 category as co leader Viani D'Cunha Antonio fell toAli Valizadeh of Iran  in round 8 of the 2011 Asian Youth Chess Championship. A win against Amirsalar Javidfar of Iran in the 9th round ,means a 9 game IM norm for Garcia. In the Girls Under-12 category Samantha Glo Revita of Pangasinan scored back to back victory against Maria Ivana Furtado and Marie Antoinette San Diego to move up for the share of the lead with two others.A final round victory for Revita means a FIDE master title. Dennis Gutierrez III ,son of National Master Dennis Gutierrez beat Nguyen Huynh Minh Thien  to assure himself a medal in the Open Under-8 division . Cherry Ann Mejia scores 6.5/8 India is expected to top the medal standing ,with Iran and the Philippines battling it out for 2nd and 3rd place.
