Updates !! Southern Tagalog chess teams won the overall chess championship in the 2011 Palarong Pambansa. Southern Tagalog won the gold medals in the High School Boys and the Elementary Girls Division to denied the National Capital Region a six straight over all chess title.
Southern Tagalog also finished 4th in the High School girls and Elementary Boys division. National Capital Region finished 2nd over all while Ilocos Region finished 3rd over all . The Ilocos Region won the High School girls title despite an upset loss to Southern Tagalog 0 :2 as leading Board 1 player Brena Mae Membrere loss to Lucelle Bermundo and Mariel Batulan loss to Shaina Mae Mendoza on Board 2 .NCR had a chance to take the title but FM Cherry Ann Mejia loss to Rowelyn Joy Acedo of DavRAA on Board 1 battle. The Ilocos Region High School Boys got the silver medals 0.5 points behind the gold medal team of Southern Tagalog.

Southern Tagalog blanks earstwhile leader Ilocos Region in round 6 to take the solo lead in the High School Boys Division of the 2011 Palarong Pambansa held in Dapitan City. Central Visayas composed of two first year high school students shock perennial champion National Capital Region 1.5 : 0.5 and moved up to fifth place with only one round remaining. In the High School Girls, Ilocos Region regain the solo leadership as Western Visayas held three time defending champion National Capital Rgion to a 1: 1 draw. Ilocos Region blanks Central Visayas 2:0 and now enjoy a one point lead over NCR with only one round remaining.
