The Asian Zone 3.3 Open Chess Championship started May 24,2011 at the Tagaytay International Convention Center,Tagaytay City,Philippines. A total of 48 players(including 12 GM, 11 IM and 11FM) in the Open Division and 36 players (5 WGM , 1 IM, 4 WIM , 7 WFM and 3 WCM)
in the Women's division are enter in the nine round Swiss System.competition.
FM Tin Jingyao (1859), the 11 year old boy from Singapore and FM Haridas Pascua scored upset victories against their much older and highly-favored opponents at the start of the 3.3 Asian Zone Open Chess Championship. Jingyao defeated IM Halay Taufik (2346) while Pascua,the 2011 Asian Youth Blitz Under 18 champion beat veteran compatriot GM Eugenio Torre. Tong Thai Hung (2103), the 42 year old untitled player from Vietnam won against GM Dede Liu (2418) .
