GENERAL REGULATIONS
1. INVITATION
The ¨Chess Academy of Thessaloniki”, the World Chess Federation (FIDE) and the Greek Chess Federation have
the honour of inviting all national chess federations and eligible players in the FIDE World Amateur Chess
Championship 2012 to be held in the 5-star Porto Carras Grand Resort in Halkidiki, Northern Greece from 16
April (1

round) to 22 April (9
th
round).
2. RIGHT OF PARTICIPATION
The participants shall not have a FIDE title or published FIDE rating above 2000 at the start of the tournament
nor had such a rating for at least two years prior to the start of the event. The World Amateur Championship is
open to all eligible chess players registered with their federation. FIDE-member federations shall have the right
to send as many players as they wish. The World Amateur Women's Championship shall be held as part of the
World Amateur Championship and female contestants will be eligible to win both titles.
3. CONDITIONS OF ENTRY FEES
3.1 The FIDE entry fee is 30 euros and this can be paid to the Organising Committee and forwarded to FIDE
or sent directly to FIDE from the national federation before the start of the tournament.
The FIDE entry fee for the first two nominees of each national federation is FREE.
3.2 The registration fee to the Organizing Committee is 40 euros.
4. REGISTRATION AND TRAVEL CONDITIONS
4.1 Entry forms must be sent from the National Federations or the players and returned to the Organizing
Committee no later than Monday 12 March 2012. If the registration is not forwarded by the Federation a copy
must be sent to the National Federation. The individual participations must have the approval of the National
Federations.
4.2 The registration email, must include the surname/s, first name/s, FIDE ID number, FIDE rating and passport
number (for visa only purpose) of each player and each accompanying person.
4.3 The cost of bus transportation from Thessaloniki airport to Porto Carras (120 km), including return on the
departure day is 60 euros per person. The service is provided on 15 & 16 April for arrivals and 22 & 23 April for
departures.
4.4 At the time of registration by Monday 12 March 2012 the amount of 40 EUR (registration) + 50% of the
total accommodation cost + 60 EUR transportation cost (if required) must be transferred , free of bank charges,
to the following bank account for each participant or accompanying person. The rest of payments must be made
the latest on arrival.

The hotel bookings and transfers can be made and with online credit card payment through the exclusive

From the online menu choose Games Festival, then Chess and then the package of your choice.
Once the bank transfer has been received, the Organising Committee will issue and send the assigned booking
confirmation.
5. VENUE - ACCOMMODATION
5.1. Accommodation and board will be provided at the 5-star PORTO CARRAS GRAND RESORT which is the
official hotel of the event and where the games will also be held.
5.2. Every participant and all national delegations have to register through the Organising Committee and use
the official hotel. Registrations, bookings and visa invitations are made only through the Organising Committee.
5.3. Hotel payments for all players and accompanying persons must be made in advance as described in
registration process and the rest 50% the latest by arrival. Hotel payments must be paid in EUR currency
(euros). No future payments of hotel bills will be accepted. Cancellations are not possible after 16 March 2012.
5.4. Lodging for players, coaches and accompanying persons will cost per person, for 7 nights (15/4 to
22/4) FB (includes breakfast, lunch and dinner). More nights at the same prices are possible on request.

VISA INFORMATION
Teams or players needing visas are requested to contact the Organising Committee before 5 March 2012 and
apply on time to Greek Authorities. The Organizing Committee will provide invitations for visas only after the
necessary deposit payments are confirmed.
6. RULES AND REGULATIONS
The tournament will be played according to the Swiss System in 9 rounds. National ratings will not be taken into
consideration for the pairings. Rate of play will be according to FIDE regulations 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30
minutes for the rest of the Game with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move 1.Participants who
have not confirmed their participation by Monday 16

April 13:00 will not be paired for the first round.

8. PRIZES – TITLES
The World Amateur Champion shall be awarded the title of FIDE master and a rating of 2200. The Women’s
World Amateur Champion shall be awarded the title of Woman FIDE master and a rating of 2050. In the Open
Section the winner of the Silver Medal shall be awarded a rating of 2100 and the Bronze Medal a rating of 2050.
