2014 Manila-DCS Division Chess Meet High School Girls Division : Surprise !!....surprise!!!....surprise!!

NCR finalist Maria Alexa Tapales of District V was made to believe  that all she needs was a draw in the final round against co leader Maria Nebato and she will automatically gets the Board 1 slot in the Palarong Maynila set next month. Since both player scores 4.5 point ,the methods in breaking ties between two players was used. 1st was the winner over the other ,second was more wins as Black. As the game ends in a draw , the second tie break was used, Nebato won two games with the black pieces , won 1 game with the white pieces and got another point from a bye, as District IV had no player on Board 1, and  the draw against Tapales for a total of 4.5 points.
Tapales won two games with the White pieces , won one game with the Black pieces and another point from  a bye and the draw with Nebato for 4.5 points. As the Chief Arbiter announced the final ranking with Nebato as champion and Tapales as Board 1 runner up, the District 5 coach together  with  an amuyong insist that Tapales should be declared as the champion as the unplayed game (or bye) of Tapales as Black must be counted as win for Black .
