Cruz tops SK Peng Manalac Chess Cup Senior as Tan blunders!

Hometown bet Engineer Christopher Cruz pounced on tournament leader Kagawad Charlie Tan blunders in the final round to topped the side event of the SK Chairman "Peng" Manalac Chess Cup Open for players above 18 years of age held at the Barangay Tinajeros Hall, Goldedale,Malabon City.
Tan settled for first runner-up honors. Tan was actually tied with Marvin Salvador of Valenzuela City. Tan however gained the upper hand in the Buccholz tie-break. Salvador was relegated to second runner-up honors.
Frederick Bernardo also from Valenzuela City finished solo fourth. Three other participants finished the tournament tied for fifth to seventh place . However Armando Miranda of Merville, Navotas City won the ensuing ie break for fifth place, Jeffrey Jimenez of Meycauyan, Bulacan placed six while Fernando Custodio of Barangay Acacia placed seventh over all. Present during the awarding ceremonies were SK Chairman Prospero Alfonso "Peng" Manalac and council. Hon.Merlin "Tiger" Manalac in coordination with Barangay Captain Teban Arevalo supported the twin events. Philippine Blitz Chess Association National Arbiter Ernie Baltazar assisted by Ed Chu  officiated the tournaments.

Kenneth claims SK Peng Manalac Chess Cup

Fourteen year-old Melwyn Kenneth Baltazar captured the SK Peng Manalac Chess Cup held in Tinajeros Covered Court,Goldendale,Tinajeros,Malabon City April 15,2012 (April 15 is the founding anniversary of Kabataang Barangay signed by former President Ferdinand Marcos Presidential Decree No.684 creating KB (now SK).
The incoming 3rd year high school student of Colegio de San Juan de Letran finished a full point ahead with a perfect 6/6 scores. First runner-up was University of the East Aaron Kimuel Lorenzo who scored 5.0 points.
Baltazar completed his six game sweep with a final round win over Philip Octaviano of Barangay Acacia whom he crushed with a Caro-Kann defense.  Octaviano settled for second runner-up honors.
SK Tinajeros chaiman Prospero Alfonso "Peng" Manalac and council handed the awards to the winners. Barangay Captain Teban Arevalo and Hon.Merlin "Tiger" Manalac supported the events.  Philippine Blitz Chess Association National Arbiter Ernie Baltazar and Malabon Chess Association Ed Chu ably assisted the tournament proceedings.
