2010 Asean Age Group Chess-Senior 50+: Like father, like son or Like son, like father

Younger children usually follows what their parents do. Ernie , a chess amateur, never joined any national or international tournament until this one.Nobody expected that the elder Baltazar will win any medals.Relatively unknown,no national rating ,no local rating and no tournament experience he beat to the finish 2008 ASEAN gold medalist National Master Edmund Legaspi of the Philippines;2009 ASEAN gold medalist Le Thien Vi of Vietnam,FIDE rated Pricha Srivatanakul of Thailand,N Y Wong of Singapore,Ngo Duc Thang and Lam Tuyet Mai also from Vietnam. He also won against Joel Pineda,Salvador Mangalindan and Ernesto Sayo of Dep-Ed.He was glad that he garnered a total of 3 gold and 1 bronze in the Standard,Rapid and Blitz events of the Senior 50+ on his first try.A fourth gold slipped away when he loss to International Master Chan Pen Kong of Singapore,in a Q+R + 5 pawns against Chan Q+N + 3 pawns ending,Ernie's Queen slips from f6 to f7 square; losing the Queen and the gold. He now set his sight on a higher plane: a grandmaster titles at the age of 60.
