2013 National Open Blitz Chess Championhips (December 28,2013) Dableo wins 2013 National Open Blitz Chess Championships

GM Roland Salvador (Elo rating 2467)against Melwyn Kenneth Baltazar in their round 1 match up ,Kenneth use his favorite Caro Kann Defense to authored the biggest upset in the tournament.


International Master Ronald Dableo won the 2013 Philippine Naional Open Blitz Chess Championship held December 28,2013 at the Philippine Sports Commission National Athletes Dining Hall,RMSC,Manila. 76 players including 6 Grandmasters, 7 International Master,5 FIDE Master and 41 FIDE rated players competed in a 9 - round Swiss System with a time control od G-3' + 2".
Actually three players are tied for 1st - 3rd place with 7.5 points each. Ronald Dableo, Haridas Pascua and Alcon John Datu. After the tie break score Dableo finished first. Pascua second and Datu third place.

Meanwhile Melwyn Kenneth Baltazar of Colegio de San Juan de Letran gave his father Ernie Baltazar an early birthday gift by defeating GM Roland Salvador (Elo rating 2462) in only 26 moves of a Caro Kann Defense, Kenneth was two pawn up and ready to take the rook when GM Salvador resign the game. Kenneth almost make it two wins against 2400 opponents, but time pressure allows veteran FM Fernie Donguines (Elo rating 2407) to escape with a draw. Kenneth also won against Richard Dela Cruz (2125);former De La Salle University standout Arnel Nino Aton and Henry Mariano. Kenneth loss to 1992 National Junior champion IM Yves Ranola (2349), FM Haridas Pascua of Pangasinan .
