NM Nelson Mariano II, eighteen-year old finished with seven wins and two draws to bag the top prize of P40,000.00 in the nine-round Swiss System tournament. Mariano (22210 defeated NM Victor Cabrido in the final round to clinch the title.NM Ponciano Badilles one of the three sons of NM Glicerio Badilles was solo second with 7.5 points worth P30,000.00. Seven players Ronald Bancod, International Master Robert Tibensky of Czechoslovakia ,Hector Unding of Zamboanga City,Yves Ranola,Antonio Calvo ,Rodolfo Panopio and Cabrido finished in a tie for third to 9th places with seven points.Top seed GM Ardiansyah and IM Malcolm Pein of England finished in a tie for 10th to 18th place with 6.5 points. Also with 6.5 points were Tim Reilly of Australia,Carlo Lorena,Efren Bagamasbad Homer Cunana Edgardo Garma Voltaire Sevillano and Stewart ManaogIM Zdenko Krnic led a big group at 19th - 33rd place with six points which include IM Jose Gutierrez of Colombia,Ion Solonari of of Moldovia, Roumel Reyes,Mario Meneses Jenny Mayor, Gil Natividad,Henry de la Cruz,Rene Cagungon,Edmundo Legaspi,Willie Calumberan,Glicerio Pardillo,Carlio Macativo ,Alex Milgrosa and Cedric Gloria.PCF National Arbiter Ernie Baltazar officiated the tournament
