GM Joseph Sanchez clinch 2011 Pierre et Vacances International Open title

GM Joseph Sanchez of the Philippines defeated GM Sabino Brunello of Italy in the last round to finished with five wins ,four draws and no loss to bag the top prize of 2,200 euro in the nine round Swiss System 2011 Pierre et Vacances International Open held in Cannes,France, February 21-27,2011. A total of 64 players including 16 Grandmasters, 14 International masters,6 FIDE masters, 3Women international masters participated in the events. Sanchez won against Xavier Wunderman (2234)of France;IM David Martinez(2398) of Spain;GM Boris Avrukh (2626)of Israel; GM David Alberto (2580) of Luxembourg and GM Brunello (2540) of Italy.He draws his games against GM Ruben Felgaer (2585)of Argentina; IM Axel Delorme(2492)of France;GM Evgeny Romanov(2606) of Russia and GM Michael Roiz (2649)of Israel. Sanchez performance rating of 2741 is the highest by a Filipino in an  international tournament and gained 26 Fide rating points to increased his rating to 2542. Five players are tied for the lead after 8 rounds, co leaders Michael Roiz(6 points) drew his game against Christian Bauer(6points) in only 8 moves while the game Javier Villa Gasquez(6points) and Evgeny Romanov (6points)ended in a 7 moves draw, paving the way for Sanchez(6points) who won against Sabino Brunello in 33 moves of an English Opening to solo first place.
