Sixth FIDE Women Grand Prix Round 1: Upset,upset,upset!

The Sixth FIDE Women Grand Prix chess tournament is being held from February 21 to March 5,2011 in the Sharq Village and Spa in Doha ,Qatar. The opening ceremony was attended by the FIDE President Kirsan Iljumzhinov, who greeted all participants and guest of the events and congratulate all Women on the forthcoming International Women's  Day.

Nana Dzagnidze of Georgia outwitted top seed Koneru Humpy of India in 41 moves of a Semi-Slav defense  at the start of the Sixth Fide Women Grand Prix. IM Martha Fierro of Ecuador upset GM Xu Chen of Qatar in 45 moves of an English Opening. GM Xu Yuhia, Elina Danielian and IM Bathkhuyag Munguntuul defeated their respective higher ranked  opponents to join the early leaders. Xu Yuhia(2484) playing Black won against Antoaneta Stefanova(2546) of Bulgaria in 43 moves of a Queens Indian Defense while GM Elina Danielian(2454) of Armenia  also playing Black defeated GM Marie Sebag (2489)of France in 58 moves of a Queens Gambit Decline,Semi-Tarrasch.IM Bathkhuyag Munguntuul(2410) downs former World women champion Maia Chiburdanidze(2502) in 47 moves of a Slav defense. Only the game between Pia Cramling (2516)and Lilit Mkrtchian (2475) ended in a draw
