11th Asian Continental Chess Championships :Round 9 ; Barbosa finished 5th over-all ,makes it to the 2013 World Cup

The 11th Asian Continental Chess Championships started May 4,2012 at the First Hotel,Ho Chi Minh City,Vietnam. A total of 71 players (including 31 GM, 1WGM, 21 IM and 9 FM) in the Open Division and 41 players (including 1GM, 13 WGM, 4 IM, 10 WIM and 5 WFM) in the Womens Division are enter in the competition.
The tournament shall be conducted as a Swiss System competition of 9 or 11 rounds depending on the number of players. If the players are 64 or less it will be organized in 9 rounds and if more than 64 players it will be in 11 Rounds. The time control is 90 minutes for the first 40 moves followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an addition of 30 seconds per move starting from move one.
Draw offer is not allowed before 30th move.
The Blitz competition will be an  11 round Swiss System with the time control of  3 Minutes and 2 Seconds Increment for each move.

The top five (5) from the 2012 Asian (Open) Championship shall qualify for the 2013 World Cup.
The 2012 Asian Women’s champions shall qualify for the 2014 Women’s World Championship.

Tie break system :
- Direct Encounter if tied players have all played each other.
- The average rating of opponents except 2 lowest Opponent.
- The Buchholz Cut1, Cut2, Median

The Total prize fund is US$ 65000.
All Cash prizes shall be shared equally among tied players.

Philippines Lucky seven not lucky in the second round; Gomez in big win against Negi!

GM Wesley So and the Philippines lucky seven were not lucky in the second round of the 11th Asian Continental Chess Championship as they score only two victories against five defeat. Wesley So 's game against GM Nguyen Anh Dung ended in a draw. Veteran Grandmasters Eugene Torre, Rogelio Antonio Jr and Gm Mark Paragua lost to their much lower seed opponents. The 61 year old Eugene Torre lost to FM Wei Yi(2376) of China while GM Rogelio Antonio lost to IM Nezad Husein Aziz (2393)of Qatar.Paragua lost to IM Liu Qingnam(2483) of China.   8th ranked GM Yuyangyi(2626) won aginst Darwin Laylo while 10th ranked Ghaem Maghami Ehsan  of Iran downs IM Jan Emmanuel Garcia .
