Melwyn Kenneth Baltazar of Letran College won the 1st Len Len Oreta Junior Chess Tournament held May 12-13,2012 at the Senior Citizens Hall,Malabon City. Baltazar scores a perfect 7 out of 7 to finished clear first, two points ahead of Eliseo Budoso and Joshua Berdadero who both score 5 points. In the Non-master division Wendell John Hitotiaga of Barangay Ibaba score 6 points to take the title. Ricardo Sardowa also booked 6 points and a lower tie break score to earn 1st runner-up honors, they split the combined P5,000.00 cash prize. Edgardo Habana wound up 2nd runner up while Philip Octaviano took third runner-up honors. Aileen Pacis and Chessa Mae Nadera of University of the East share the top lady award in the field of 66 players all over the city of Malabon. Sports coordinator Jay Reyes , Ric Ricafort and IM Barlo Nadera led the awarding ceremonies.Acting Malabon Mayor LenLen Oreta watched the tournaments final round. National Arbiter Ernie Baltazar and Marlon Ricafort officiated the twin events.
