2011 Asian Cities Chess Championship Round 1 : Philippines blanks Tarakan,Indonesia shares early lead


The Asian Cities Chess Championship is being held in Jakarta,Indonesia from April 22-29,2011. A total US$ 24,000 are at stakes with the champion getting US$10,000 ; 2nd US$6,000 ; 3rd place US$ 4,000 ; 4th place US$ 2,500 and 5th place US$ I,500.
The tournament is a 9 round Swiss System with a time control of 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment to finish the game. Top seed  is the city of Shi Jiazhuang in China with an average rating of 2583. Tagaytay City,Philippines is seeded second with an average of 2578 rating while Astana of Kazakhstan is seeded number three with 2560 . Fourth seed is Tehran Iran with 2531 average rating.
Tagaytay City blanks the all female team of Tarakan, Indonesia in Round 1 to share the early leadership. GM Wesley So needed 84 moves of a French defense to beat WGM Irene Sukandar. GM Rogelio Antonio follows winning against 13 year old Warda Medina in 44 moves of another French Defense. GM John Paul Gomez won against Chelsie Sihite in37 moves of a Sicilian Defense and GM Darwin Laylo completed the route with a win over Aa Citra  Dewi in 47 moves of a Kings Indian Defense.
