19th Shell National Youth Active Chess Championship 2011: NCR Leg : July 2-3 2011 Skydome Event Center, SM North EDSA

The five-leg regional eliminations of the 19th Shell National Youth Active Chess Championship  kicks off with the National Capital Region  leg July 2-3 2011 at the Skydome Event Center at SM North EDSA. A total of 500 participants will vie for the top two slots for the Grand Finals in the Junior division (Boys 20-under)
 ; Kiddies division (Boys 14- under) , Junior division (Girls 20-under) and the Kiddies division (Girls-under 14).
Three hundred (300) players will fight it out in the Kiddies Boys , one hundred (100 ) players in the Junior Boys and Fifty (50 ) players each in the Girls Kiddies and Girls Junior divisions.

19th Shell National Youth Active Chess Championship : 3rd straight final appearance for Kenneth!!

Melwyn Kenneth A. Baltazar, a 2nd year high school student of Collegio de San Juan de Letran score 7.5 points in 8 games to take the champion's crown, an outright berth in the October national grand finals and the top purse of P 4,000.00 + trophy in the 19th Shell National Youth Active Chess Championship 2011 NCR leg concluded at the SM North EDSA-SKYDOME Event Center in Quezon City. Baltazar's round 5 opponent,12th ASEAN Age Group Chess Championship 2011 Rapid Open-14 gold medalist Jerad Docena, settled for runner-up plus a seat in the national grand finals and the first runner-up prize of P3,000.00.Docena also booked 7.5 points and a lower  tie-break score.Provincial entry Jhoemar Mendiogarin wounded up 2nd runner-up with 6.5 points while Gino Divino Cabual took 3rd runner-up honor. Stalled by a draw after four straight wins, Baltazar whacked Istaraelito Rilloraza , Gino Divino Cabual and John Fleer Donguines in his last three games. In the 20 -under bracket Jerich Cajeras went undeafeated in eight outings to book 7.5 points He defeated Kevin Arquero in the last round to emerged as champion.Cajeras receives P5,000.00 plus a seat in the national grand finals. Sherwin Tiu eked wins in his last four games to log 7.0 points. He took 1st runner-up honors ,P4,000.00 plus a seat in the national grand finals.Rolly Parondo Jr took 2nd runner-up to earned P3,000.00 + trophy.
