Teli Chess International Tournament 2011: Barus Cerdas takes title!


GM Barus Cerdas of Indonesia score a total of 7.5 points, one half point ahead of Merab Gagunashvili of Georgia;
Dao Thien Hai of Vietnam; Eugene Torre of the Philippines and compatriot Dede Liu.    Cerdas defeated overnight  leader IM Irwanto Sadikin to finish solo first and grab the US$ 5,000.00 first prize sponsored by the Telin Indonesia TELCOM and organized by the Indonesian Chess Federation.   Top seed Merab Gagunashvili won against Chandra Purnama to finish second with 7.0 points and  a tie break score of 53.5 points. Dao Thien Hai finished third also with 7 points and 53.0 tie break score.   Veteran Filipino GM Eugene Torre , who will turn 60 years old this year  is a candidate for the World Championship in the early 80's finished with  6 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss for 4th place with 51.5 tie break points.Dede Liu finished 5th also with 51.5 tie break points.Finishing equal sixth to 10th place with 6.5 points were GM Zhang Zhong of Singapore, IM Irwanto Sadikin, FM Wahono Awam IM Halay Taufik and GM Susanto Megaranto.    WGM Anastazia Karlovich of Ukraine score 5.5 for the best female ; Warda Aulia the 13 year old girl sensation finished with 5.0 points, while WGM Irene Sukandar finished with 4.5 points.
